Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Postgame: Singles night for the Twins; Detroit makes pitching change for Tuesday

I focused much of my game story on Liam Hendriks and the Twins bullpen, so here are some additional notes:

* All 13 of the Twins hits were singles. They built a 6-1 lead by the fifth inning but didn't score again. They stranded 10 runners on base from the fourth through the seventh, but the bullpen was good enough to win.

* Josh Willingham’s run-scoring single in the fourth inning gave him 56 RBI.

* Trevor Plouffe had a two-run, two-out single in the fourth that gave the Twins a 3-1 lead. Plouffe has 25 RBI since June 2 and 33 for the season.

* Ryan Doumit was the offensive player of the game for the Twins. He reached base all five times, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. His fourth inning run-scoring single extended his hitting streak to 11 games and gave him 35 RBI.

* Joe Mauer was 0-for-14 for his career against Tigers starter Doug Fister before singling in the fourth inning. Mauer also singled off Fister in the fifth. Mauer has a 10-game hitting streak.

* Ben Revere had two hits and a walk, giving him 20 multi-hit games on the season. Brian Dozier had his fourth career 13-hit game.

* The Tigers (39-41) missed another chance to climb back to the .500 mark for the first time since they were 18-18 on May 15.

* After the game, the Tigers announced a pitching change for Tuesday. Max Scherzer has a hamstring issue, so Duane Below will start in his place. Scherzer is 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA in his past four starts. Below, a lefthander who has a 2.70 ERA in 21 relief appearances, threw 41 pitches Wednesday in his most recent outing.

* The Twins counter with Nick Blackburn. It's time for him to turn things around.
