La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
Fans eager to see infield prospect Brian Dozier are about to get their wish.
The Twins will select the contract of one of their top prospects in time for the opening of a three-game series against the Angels at Target Field. Dozier went 1-for-4 on Saturday for Class AAA Rochester and is batting .276. He will take the place of Justin Morneau, who will be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his left wrist.
The Twins also will call up lefthander Scott Diamond, who is 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA for the Red Wings The Twins have not announced the corresponding roster move on Monday, but it's expected to be righthander Liam Hendriks.
