Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- The Twins have promoted catcher Drew Butera from Class AAA Rochester. He is on his way to Anaheim today and will be placed on the active roster before tonight's game.
The Twins will make a corresponding roster move before the game. They hope to know more then about Justin Morneau's left wrist, as he'll be visiting Dr. Thomas Varecka in the Twin Cities this afternoon.
If it doesn't look good for Morneau, he'll be place on the DL. And if he check out OK, they'll have to cut another player.
Butera, who batted .279 with one homer and five RBI in 15 games for Rochester, gives the Twins a third catcher to go with Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit. Mauer took a foul tip off his left knee Sunday and was still sore on Monday.
