The Twins on Wednesday o officially set the 25-man roster when they optioned righthander Jason Marquis to Class AA New Britain, placed Scott Baker on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow and purchased the contracts of infielder Sean Burroughs and Jared Burton.

The moves weren't a surprise, as the Twins needed to clear two spaces to add Burroughs and Burton and Marquis, who had one option left, and Baker were logical choices.

Marquis, a 13-year veteran, had to agree to the move because he has more than five years in the majors. Marquis probably will make two starts and build up his arm to throw 95 pitches or so before he returns to the Twins.

"I'm starting on Saturday, and we'll go from there," Marquis said. "We've discussed maybe two starts, but we'll see how the first one goes."

Marquis threw 54 pitches on Tuesday in a minor league spring training game.

New Britain is about two hours from New York, which allows Marquis to visit his daughter, Reese, who is recovering from injuries suffered in a bicycle accident two weeks ago.

Burroughs had two hits on Wednesday in the Twins' 8-7 win over Class A Fort Myers in an exhibition game at Hammond Stadium. He tweaked his back while getting off the bus in Port Charlotte on Monday and is ready to go.

Infielder Alexi Casilla, who had missed several games because of a sore right knee, started on Wednesday and is good to go for Opening Day.
