YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
Spring training is basically 30-something fake games before the 162 real ones.
Then there are days like today when teams need to look at pitchers and get together for really fake games, called B games. The Twins and Red Sox will play such a game today at 1 p.m. Eastern so they can evaluate some of their pitchers.
The Twins also will have a simulated game on one of the back fields here. They will go over various game situations, kind of a final exam on all the stuff they've worked on over the last week-and-a-half.
So there will be a lot going on today.
Red Sox lineup: Iglesias (6), Lin (RF), Lavarnway (C), Kroeger (DH), Middlebrooks (3B), Anderson (1B), Repko (CF), Tejeda (2B), Hassan (LF). Pitching: Bard, RHP
Twins lineup: Revere (LF) Chang (2B), Tosoni (RF), Benson (CF), Dinkelman (DH), Bates (1B), Dozier (SS), Towles (C), Florimon (2B). Pitching: Baker, RHP
Other note:
Carl Pavano will throw in the bullpen today and start in Saturday's spring opener against Tampa Bay
