Bud Selig deserves credit for growing revenues, introducing interleague play and reaching labor peace with the player's association during his commissionership. He has not been perfect, however, and I think he's making a couple blunders with today's announcements.

Welcome to the American League in 2013, Houston Astros. You now have a rivalry with a Rangers team that's growing into a juggernaut. Pack a lunch.

I not mad about a team switching leagues, it's the ramifications of the move that have me seething.

Because there are 15 teams in each league, someone will be playing an interleague series throughout the season instead of the middle of the season. Interleague play is a great in-season exchange program, but it's unfair to teams in both leagues to have to play by different rules during a pennant race. Boston at Pittsburgh in September? With David Ortiz on the bench? Why create a situation in which a team can't put its best lineup on the field in big games. That stinks. I like interleague play, but not that much.

Unless you address the DH (use it in both leagues or not at all) this move should not be made.

And this wild card thing is utterly ridiculous. There will be a second wild card team added in each league NEXT SEASON. The two wild card teams in each league will play a one-game playoff to advance.

Bad move.

I'm sure the league has watched recent one game playoffs and have salivated over the excitement and drama they have created. (thanks to the Twins being unable to handle their business in 162 games, twice). Let it happen naturally than foist it on us, Bud. You want to stay away from one-game playoffs at the end of a 162-game schedule. I'd rather see another best-of-five series added than a one-game playoff.

What's great about baseball is that there are 162 games to determine which teams are good and which teams stink. This isn't the NBA or NHL, where more than half the league makes the playoffs - which is a joke. You have to earn it in MLB, where eight of 30 teams have moved on. Now that's changing, and I'm not in favor of it.

In my opinion, the league made two announcements today that didn't need to be made.
