CHICAGO -- Justin Morneau jammed his left shoulder diving for a ball in Sunday's game and woke up stiff and sore Monday, so he's not in tonight's lineup as the Twins begin a three-game series against the White Sox.

"Sometimes you land a little funny, and we'll see what happens," Manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Hopefully he'll be playing tomorrow."

Joe Mauer (sore neck) is not in the lineup for the sixth straight game. Describing the injury today, he said he hyper-extended his neck when he tried to catch that pop fly against the Orioles last Tuesday. He plans to take batting practice with the team tonight and hopes to be available to pinch hit off the bench.

Michael Cuddyer (sore wrist) and Tsuyoshi Nishioka (strained oblique) are both back in the lineup.

Alexi Casilla (strained hamstring) is beginning a rehab assignment tonight with Class A Fort Myers. He was going to join Class AAA Rochester but Hurricane Irene made it difficult getting him to Buffalo, N.Y.

Slowey vs. Buehrle

Kevin Slowey will make his third start of the year tonight, facing a White Sox team that sits six games behind the first-place Tigers in the AL Central.

Slowey is 0-2 with a 9.58 ERA in two starts, with two walks, seven strikeouts and 16 hits allowed in 10 1/3 innings. He kept the Orioles scoreless for the first four innings last Wednesday at Target Field before Baltimore chased him with five runs in the fifth.

The Twins will face longtime nemesis Mark Buehrle, who is 1-1 with a 0.39 ERA in three starts against the Twins this year.
