Mauer rests as Twins try to beat an AL East team

Posted by: La Velle E. Neal III Updated: August 24, 2011 - 6:51 PM

Looks like Joe Mauer is getting a breather as the Twins try to figure out a way to beat the dangerous Orioles. Twins are 10-26 against the AL East.

No updates on Jim Thome's or Jason Kubel's waiver situation. Reports have the White Sox claiming both players. Keep in mind that the Twins and Sox have not made a deal with each other since 1986.

UPDATE: infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka (back) is doing better but isn't ready to return to the lineup.

Vladimir Guerrero was a late scratch from tonight's game with a left wrist contusion. He was hit in that area during batting practice.

Reliever Jeff Manship is in town to have his elbow examined.

Several Twins took extra infield practice before the game.
