OAKLAND, CALIF. -- The Twins optioned infielder Luke Hughes to Class AAA Rochester after today's 7-3 loss and announced that they plan to activate center fielder Denard Span from the disabled list before Tuesday's game in Anaheim, Calif.

The Twins are off Monday before opening a three-game series with the Angels. Here are the pitching matchups:
Tues: Brian Duensing (8-8, 4.35 ERA) vs. Ervin Santana (6-8, 3.47 -- first start since his no-hitter)
Wed: Scott Baker (8-6, 2.86) vs. Joel Pineiro (5-5, 4.91)
Thurs: Francisco Liriano (7-8, 4.67) vs. Tyler Chatwood (6-7, 3.93)
