Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
DETROIT -- Twins right fielder Jason Kubel left Monday's game in the seventh inning with a sprained left foot and is listed as day-to-day.
X-rays taken at Comerica Park were negative.
Kubel went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game and is now batting .310 with five homers and a team-leading 30 RBI. He jumped toward the right-field wall, when Victor Martinez hit a two-run, game-tying homer for Detroit in the sixth inning, and it's possible Kubel twisted his foot on the way down.
Jason Repko pinch hit for Kubel, leading off the seventh inning, and replaced him in right field.
I'll have updates on Kubel and Francisco Liriano after the game.
