Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
BOSTON -- It's a gorgeous day here, much like Minnesotans are enjoying back home, and tonight, the Twins will be trying to win their first game at Fenway Park since Sept. 30, 2007.
That was the final game of the 2007 season, and aside from being the last one with Torii Hunter and Johan Santana wearing Twins uniforms, it didn't mean a whole lot to them, since they weren't headed to the playoffs.
The Twins went 0-3 here in 2008, 0-2 in 2009 and 0-2 last year. After each trip, you couldn't help but think the Twins were lucky they didn't have to come back.
But there's no escape this time. This will feel like a long four-game series for all involved, since it's a weekend wraparound series that concludes Monday night.
It starts with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (0-0, 4.08 ERA) on the mound for Boston, opposite Scott Baker (1-2, 3.16 ERA).
Check back here this afternoon for the starting lineups.
