Tonight's game between the Twins and Rays has been postponed because of rain and will be made up as part of a split-day doubleheader on Thursday.
The cancelled game tonight will be played at 7:10 p.m. Thursday. The Twins and Rays were already scheduled to play a 12:10 p.m. game on Thursday, which will not be affected by the rain out.
The tickets for tonight's rained out game will be good only for the second game on Thursday.
It was the second rainout in five days for the Twins, and their third of the season. Some quick thoughts on potential make-up dates:
• April 6 at Yankees: The Twins were not scheduled to return to New York this year, so this will require a special trip. They would like the make-up date to be Sept. 8, which is now an open date leading into a road trip to Detroit and Kansas City. But the Yankees are scheduled to begin a series in Anaheim, Calif, on Sept. 9 against the Angels. It sounds like the Yankees would prefer Sept. 19, which is an off day in the middle of a homestand for the Twins.
Interesting note: The Yankees also have three postponements this season.
• Last Friday vs. Cleveland: Manager Ron Gardenhire said this likely will be re-scheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader when Cleveland returns July 18-20. Cleveland also returns Sept. 16-18, but Gardenhire said MLB prefers these games to be made up as soon as possible.
• The only other makeup option against the Rays would have been when the team returns to Target Field for a three-game series July 4-6.
