Joe Mauer will DH and bat third today when the Twins play host to the Mets at Hammond Stadium. Justin Morneau is back in the lineup as the cleanup hitter. It's the first time these two former MVP's have been in the same lineup since July 7, when Morneau suffered a concussion when he was kneed in the head while sliding into second during a 6-5 loss to Toronto.

The Twins went on to win the AL Central - then were dispatched by the Yankees in the ALDS. How much did the Twins miss having the M&M boys together for that series? Would they have won a game?. More? Who knows?

What can't be denied is that that Mauer and Morneau form one of the best tandems in the league. Today will provide a little taste of what the first half of last season was.

Jim Thome is on the list to play today. So my guess is that he'll replace Mauer as DH after two at-bats.

Alex Burnett and Jim Hoey are on the schedule to pitch today. Both need good outings to keep the bullpen battle interesting.
