In what surely will make me jealous and extremely resentful, KARE-11 tonight will broadcast the first of a two-part in-depth profile of new Twins infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka.

How in-depth? The station sent Mike Pomeranz to Japan to meet with Nishioka and apparently returned with a LOT of great footage.

Lucky bum.

The installments will run during 10 p.m. newscasts tonight and Monday. Should be very informative.

Grrrr.....

DIAMOND AWARDS SCHEDULE

On to something that I had something to do with

Folks, the Sixth Annual Diamond Awards last Thursday might have been the best ever. We had a record crowd as we celebrated last season and raised money for neurological research at the University of Minnesota.

You can see how well it went for yourselves, as Fox Sports North filmed the event and have produced a one-hour show that will be aired enough times for the entire viewership to see at least once.

ETC

In case you crossed your fingers for the return of Ron Mahay, Jayson Stark has tweeted that Mahay will sign with the Dodgers.

The Caribbean World Series began on Wednesday. I quickly scanned the rosters and found one player who's currently with the Twins, lefthander Nelvin Fuentes.

Fuentes, from Puerto Rico, split time between Elizabethton and Class A Beloit last year. He was 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA at Beloit. I was told that Fuentes was skinny when they drafted him but has filled out some and has a chance to pitch himself into prospect status.

I did notice several players with old ties to the Twins playing in the series, including Javy Valentin (PR), Brock Peterson (DOM), Dan Serafini (MEX) and Luis Maza (VEN).

That's it for today. Pitchers and catchers report in 13 days.....
