Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
The Twins today announced a list of 19 non-roster players who have been invited to spring training, including 2009 first-round draft pick Kyle Gibson, who is knocking on the door for a starting rotation spot but likely will open the season at Class AAA Rochester.
The list also includes 2008 first-round pick Carlos Gutierrez, who will challenge for a bullpen spot this spring. Here's the full list:
Pitchers: Yorman Bazardo, Phil Dumatrait, Kyle Gibson, Carlos Gutierrez, Chuck James, Kyle Waldrop
Catchers: Jair Fernandez, Chris Herrmann, Steve Holm, Danny Lehmann, Danny Rams, Rene Rivera
Infielders: Matt Brown, Ray Chang, Brian Dozier, Justin Huber, Chase Lambin
Outfielders: Jeff Bailey, Brian Dinkelman
