Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Postgame update: Fuentes, Mijares, Perkins, Neshek

Eight of the Twins past nine games have been decided by one run, so their relievers have had plenty of high-stress outings. After Monday's 5-4 victory over Kansas City, Manager Ron Gardenhire noted a few things that could help keep the relievers share the load:

  • LH Brian Fuentes (lower-back stiffness) is ready to throw a bullpen session Tuesday.
  • LH Jose Mijares (right knee surgery) will throw a simulated game in Cleveland next weekend.
  • LH Glen Perkins and RH Pat Neshek have been promoted from Class AAA Rochester, as expected, and will be in the bullpen on Tuesday.
