Twins add lefty Randy Flores to the bullpen

The Twins have claimed left-handed reliever Randy Flores off waivers from Colorado on Wednesday. He went 2-0 with a 2.96 ERA in 47 games with Colorado this season.

One Twins official didn't seem fired up about Flores when asked about adding him over the weekend. The guess here is that the coaching staff really wanted a lefty to go with Glen Perkins.

Flores cleared waivers last week and was designated for assignment by the Rockies on August 20. His 2010 salary is $650,000. You might remember that Flores was part of the Cardinals 2006 World Series title-winning team.

To make room for Flores, Ron Mahay was transferred to the 60-day DL, effectively ending his season. The guess here - again - is that they didn't get good news on Mahay's chances of coming back this season and made the move for Flores.

The Twins will make room on their 25-man roster once Flores joins the team in Texas. Jeff Manship or Anthony Slama look to be the main candidates to be sent to Class AAA Rochester.

Will have more  from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington around 5 p.m., after Gardy's presser. The best thing so far today is that I have Phone back - although the e-mail has been disabled and I have to re-load twitter. Chances are good that  there will be no twitter updates for a couple days. I've got to get out of Texas first. The cell phone service here stinks.
