White Sox avoid sweep, Twins welcome Angels

Yikes. What happened last night?

The American League Central race is far from over, and we ought to know better than to get comfortable with any size lead. Ozzie Guillen had this to say about his team's struggle to get back on top:

We will fight to the end. How's the fight going to go? I don't know how the fight is going to go, but we're going to fight like a champ. We're not down.

Mark Buehrle silenced the Twins' bats, striking out four and scattering five hits throughout the night while allowing just three guys past first base. For the Chicago White Sox, it was more or less The Paul Konerko Show. The first baseman had a double, three base hits, and nailed his 31st homer of the year on the very first pitch he saw in the fifth inning off Carl Pavano to help his team avoid the sweep and creep back to four games behind the division-leading Twins.

The Mustache lasted just six innings, giving up 15 of the White Sox 21 hits for seven earned runs. Not exactly what Twins fans were hoping for. Then Glen Perkins came in for "relief," but instead dished out four runs on five hits over two innings. Yuck. Hopefully Pavano can move on without shaving off that glorious facial hair. It's really grown on me...

The Twins will put Thursday's suckfest behind them and welcome Torii Hunter and the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10pm Friday night. Brian Duensing, who is enjoying a 6-1 record and 2.00 ERA so far this season, will make his first ever start against the Angels, facing mid-season acquisition Dan Haren, who will make his seventh career start against Minnesota.
