The Fort Myers portion of spring training is about to end as the Twins play Boston this afternoon before leaving town on Monday for a game on Tuesday in the nation's capital against the Nationals.

And they will do so with the roster a little bit in flux. At least it was before the game.

The Twins are trying to figure out how to deal with Phil Hughes' left oblique strain. The righthander experienced discomfort in the area following his outing on Thursday against the Yankees. His turn in the rotation is not until April 11, but there is concern that even if he recovers from the injury that he won't be at maximum sharpness.

There is no reason to rush a fifth starter into action, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Hughes land on the disabled list so he can work his way back on a more deliberate pace.

That allows righthander Tyler Kinley and lefthander Gabriel Moya to break camp with the team.

In other news...

The Twins have released righthander Michael Kohn. The Twins signed Kohn during the season last year as he completed his rehab from right shoulder surgery. But then he suffered a tear of his coracobrachialis muscle, located near the biceps. That led to numbness in his arm. It's another setback for Kohn, who showed some progress as a reliever with the Angels.

You might want to monitor Luke Bard's outings with the Angels. The Angels selected him from the Twins in the Rule 5 draft, and he's in a fight for the last spot in the bullpen. He's given up 11 runs in 12 innings, including four in his last outing on Saturday. If he doesn't make it, the Angels will have to offer him back to the Twins or try to swing a deal to keep him.

Bard's arm is healthy, and live. He struck out 13.6 batters per nine innings last season between Rochester and Chattanooga. The Twins would gladly take him back.

We should find out who the Twins are taking to Washington as extra players today. Heard it could be as many as 10.

The Red Sox are firing out their top guns today. So this could be a Wild Card preview!!!!!

Boston then plays hosts to the CUBS for two games at jetBlue Park before opening the season at Tampa.
