It's more interesting to see who the reserves are for tonight's game at jetBlue Park than the starters.

Byron Buxton, Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario are in the lineup, but the Twins have two former first round picks among the group of extra players tonight. Royce Lewis, the first overall pick from last year's draft, and Alex Kirilloff, the Twins first round pick in 2016, are on the trip.

Lewis made it look easy during batting practice, driving several balls over the fake green monster in left field. It will be worth watching when he takes over at short tonight. Yes, the game is on FSN.'

Kirilloff, an outfielder, missed last season due to Tommy John surgery but all systems are go for this season.

Outfielders Aaron Whitefield and Akil Baddoo, two other interesting prospects, are on the trip too.

The Twins designated Kennys Vargas for assignment to make room for outfielder Jake Cave, whom they acquired from the Yankees on Friday. It's likely over here for Vargas, who showed prodigious power at times but could never get on a roll.

The Twins deserve some blame here for not giving him 400 plate appearances one year to really see what he's got. The signing of Byung Ho Park a few years ago hurt him. And the signing of Logan Morrison this spring really did him in. Vargas was well-liked in the clubhouse. He had an easy smile and a big laugh, and could send a baseball a long way when he made contact.

Last year was tough for him, as he was called up four different times, only to be sent down again. He was demoted once after hitting a home run. He continued to show a positive attitude despite the demotions. Hopefully he lands somewhere he can get some major league at-bats.

It's almost time for the second half of this day-night, different site doubleheader.
