The Twins have called up catcher Mitch Garver from Rochester to replace injured outfielder Robbie Grossman, who broke his thumb Thursday in a collision with Byron Buxton during the Twins' 4-2 victory over Cleveland.

Garver has played 14 games in the outfield this season and also has played a first base during his minor-league career. He was a ninth-round pick in the 2013 amateur draft and played college baseball art New Mexico.

In 88 games for the Class AAA Red Wings, Garver batted .291 with 17 home runs and 29 doubles.

The Twins also returned Aaron Slegers, who pitched 6 1/3 strong innings in his major league debut against Cleveland, to Rochester. They needed to do so because his call-up was based on being the 26th player on the roster for the doubleheader, which meant he could not stay on the team's roster.
