I have two thoughts on Bartolo Colon coming to town. The first: The Twins have nothing to lose by doing this.

They have been hit by injuries, which you try to anticipate but still can be caught off guard by. Pitchers have underperformed. Hector Santiago is a mess. He's tried to pitch solely out of the stretch in starts and later took three miles off his fastball without informing the staff of his intentions. Kyle Gibson had to spend time in the minors.

They have tried Adam Wilk, Nick Tepesch, Chris Heston, Felix Jorge and Nik Turley. And Dillon Gee's got next (he threw seven shutout innings tonight, by the way). This team has depleted it's starting rotation options. And it says something about Stephen Gonsalves and Fernando Romero at the moment that Jorge got a shot before them.

At the same time, I can see this being a disaster. He failed to touch 90 mph in his outing for Class AAA Rochester on Thursday. Some of the outs were hard hit balls hit right to the defense. With his current skill set, he needs impeccable control. He didn't have it in Rochester. Will he have it in Minnesota?

It appears that a second start for the Red Wings might have done him some good. But, reading between the lines of Molitor's comments today, that did not appear to be part of the agreement.

Either way, it will be a mini-spectacle on Tuesday. Sounds like some fans are headed to Target Field just to watch Colon pitch. With the Yankees in town, it should be entertaining.
