The day couldn't start out any worse for the Twins.

The club announced that righthander Trevor May has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, meaning his season is over. May was in contention for the No. 5 starters role but now that competition is down to Jose Berrios, Tyler Duffey, Adalberto Mejia and Ryan Vogelsong. Personally, I thought May was pitching the best of the bunch. Mejia has impressed. Berrios has the most talent but has to harness it. Vogelsong looks more like a long reliever. Duffey hasn't been bad his last two outings.

The Red Sox are here today and didn't bring many of their big shots.

Both Drew Stubbs and Robbie Grossman are in the Twins lineup today, as they fight for a backup role. Kyle Gibson is on the mound, working with Jason Castro for the fourth straight time,

All indications that the first round of cuts will take place on Monday, with a chance for a couple more on Tuesday. Minor league spring training games will be in full swing, and starters will be getting stretched out to five-plus innings. So look for a few pitchers to head to the other side.
