TWINS UPDATE

Robbie Grossman is batting .373 against lefties, making it a lock that he will play the first two games of this series. ... Santiago has posted a 1.80 ERA over his previous four starts before facing the Tigers on Tuesday and giving up six earned runs over 5 1/3 innings...This will be Duffey's first start since Sept. 14 at Detroit. The Twins wanted him to work on some things in bullpen sessions. ....This is Gibson's first game against the Mariners this season. Lifetime, he's 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA in five starts. ...The Twins are 12-11 against Seattle in Target Field. ...The last time the Twins swept Seattle in a three-game series at home was 2010.

MARINERS UPDATE

Seattle is coming off a disappointing 2-4 homestand but still has won 10 of its past 14 games to remain on the fringe of the wild card race. ... The Mariners are not taking the Twins lightly. The Twins went to Safeco in May and swept them in a three-game series, which hasn't been forgotten. ''They handed us our lunch here earlier in the year,'' manager Scott Servais said. ''They've got a lot of young players that play loose and free, and that's how we've got to play.'' Paxton no-hit the Astros for five innings Saturday in his most recent start but left after seven innings in a game Seattle ended up losing 2-1. … Kyle Seager, Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano each have at least 90 RBI, the first time Seattle has had three players with that many since 2007.
