June 22, 1984: Signs letter of intent to purchase team from Calvin Griffith for $36 million; ownership is officially transferred on Sept. 7.

Oct. 25, 1987: Twins win their first World Series championship with a 4-2 victory over St. Louis in Game 7 at the Metrodome.

Oct. 27, 1991: The Twins win their second World Series championship with a 1-0, 10-inning victory over Atlanta in Game 7 at the Metrodome.

Summer, 1994: Pohlad tells the Metropolitan Sports Commission his team needs a new stadium to compete.

Spring, 1996: A stadium plan featuring a metrowide advisory referendum is defeated in a committee vote at the State Capitol.

Strike 1 for Twins stadium proposal

Spring, 1997: Twins stadium bill fails in Legislature.

Fall, 1997: In a special session, legislators again refject a Twins ballpark bill. Pohlad reaches a tenative deal to sell the Twins to North Carolina businessman Don Beaver, but in the spring North Carolina voters reject a plan to build Twins a new stadium.

1999: St. Paul voters reject a half-cent sales tax to fund new stadium that would have included Pohlad selling the Twins to a group headed by Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor and Wild managing partner Robert Naegele Jr.

September, 2000: Twins complete their eighth consecutive losing season, going 69-93.

Nov. 6, 2001: MLB owners vote to eliminate two teams for 2002 season; it is learned that those two teams are the Twins and Montreal.

Feb. 21, 2002: Pohlad officially announces the team is for sale. No buyer steps forward.

2002: Twins win Central Division title, returning to playoffs for first time since 1991.

2002: A $330 million ballpark plan is passed by the Legislature, but Hennepin County is excluded from vying to be the site and the Twins are unable to strike a deal with St. Paul.

2004: The St. Paul City Council rejects a plan to finance a ballpark with a 3 percent restaurant sales tax; stadium bills fail at the legislature.

May 21, 2006: State Senate approves funding bill for new $522 outdoor stadium by 34-32 vote.
