After getting help from numerous products of their farm system in 2008, here are five rookies-to-be who could have an impact with the Twins next year.
BRIAN DUENSING
His trademark is control. After going 15-6 at AA and AAA in 2007, he was 5-11 at AAA Rochester this summer but had a decent 4.28 ERA. He pitched for Team USA in the Olympics in August.
LUKE HUGHES
He has power potential but must prove he can play third base well. Had a combined average of .309 with 18 homers at AA and AAA this summer.
JOSE MIJARES
Late season's performance could convince the Twins to let Dennys Reyes leave as a free agent. Mijares had a 2.70 ERA in 23 minor league games, then a 0.81 ERA in 10 appearances with the Twins.
KEVIN MULVEY
Initially earmarked this season for Class AA New Britain but held his own at Class AAA Rochester. He was only 7-9 in 27 starts at Rochester but had a 3.77 ERA and struck out 121 in 148 innings.
ANTHONY SWARZAK
Raised eyebrows by going 5-0, 1.80 in seven starts after a late promotion to Rochester. Those numbers will keep him on a fast track.
