Dioner Navarro then doubled in the go-ahead run as the Rays rallied past Boston. With the victory, the skidding Rays managed to boost their lead over Boston in the AL East to 1 1/2 games.
• CLEVELAND 6, BALTIMORE 1: Travis Hafner hit two singles and drew a walk in his return from the disabled list, and Jeremy Sowers pitched eight innings of four-hit ball for the visiting Indians.
• OAKLAND 3, DETROIT 2: Rajai Davis hit an RBI triple, and Emil Brown drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the Athletics' two-run eighth at Detroit.
• NEW YORK 7, LOS ANGELES 1: Johnny Damon homered twice and Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run homer for the Yankees at Anaheim, Calif. Derek Jeter's first-inning single, his 2,519th career hit, moved him into second on the Yankees all-time list, passing Babe Ruth.
• TEXAS 7, SEATTLE 3: Marlon Byrd and Taylor Teagarden both had two-out, two-run doubles for the Rangers at Seattle.
• NEW YORK 10, WASHINGTON 8: Carlos Beltran hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning to lead the Mets past the Nationals at New York. Carlos Delgado homered twice for the second consecutive game, including a tying solo shot preceding Beltran's homer, and Ryan Church also homered for the Mets.
• FLORIDA 10, PHILADELPHIA 8: Jorge Cantu, Mike Jacobs and Cody Ross homered for the Marlins at Philadelphia.
• ST. LOUIS 4, CHICAGO 3: Albert Pujols homered for the third consecutive game and pinch-runner Brendan Ryan slid in just ahead of the tag on a ninth-inning grounder for the host Cardinals.
• CINCINNATI 5, MILWAUKEE 4 (11): Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips hit a go-ahead RBI single in the 11th, and the host Brewers failed to gain ground on the NL Central-leading Cubs.
• HOUSTON 9, PITTSBURGH 3: Lance Berkman hit a three-run homer and an RBI double and scored three runs for the host Astros.
• LOS ANGELES 6, SAN DIEGO 2: Andre Ethier drove in four runs and Manny Ramirez homered for the Dodgers at San Diego.
• SAN FRANCISCO 5, ARIZONA 4: Eugenio Velez singled home the winning run with one out in the ninth for the host Giants.
• ATLANTA 5, COLORADO 4 (10): Rockies righthander Taylor Buchholz committed a balk with two out in the 10th and runners at second and third, sending the winning run home for the host Braves.
• The Athletics released five-time All-Star Mike Sweeney, who was limited to 42 games this year because of knee injuries. The 35-year-old has struggled to return from operations on both knees, and doctors have told Sweeney more surgery is necessary.
