Dates: Today-Sept. 4 • Games: 14
Opponents: Angels, Mariners, Athletics, Blue Jays
The story: Arduous trip, but the Angels are the only contender on the West Coast leg. The Mariners could be the first team with a $100 million payroll to lose 100 games, and the A's are 6-25 since the All-Star break. The Twins must improve their 26-31 road record.
DIVISION DUELS
Dates: Sept. 5-11 • Games: 6 (all at home) • Opponents: Tigers, Royals
The story: If the Twins struggle on the road, this could be the week to get well. The Twins are 46-23 at home and have won 11 consecutive home series. The Tigers are one of biggest disappointments in the majors, with a hefty payroll and meager results. The Tigers and Royals are already looking toward 2009.
CUE WILLIE NELSON
Dates: Sept. 12-21 • Games: 10 (all on the road) • Opponents: Orioles, Indians, Rays
The story: "On the road again ... Just can't wait to get on the road again..." Ol' Willie would be a fan of the Twins' late-season schedule in which 24 of 30 games are on road starting with tonight's game in Anaheim. The Orioles and Indians will be auditioning prospects by mid-September, while the Rays figure to be in thick of the AL East race. The Rays boast the best home record in the American League.
