Jeter, Yankees make only visit of season

Shortstop Derek Jeter, retiring at the end of the season, will face the Twins for the last time when the New York Yankees open a four-game series beginning Thursday night at Target Field. Jeter is a .323 career hitter against the Twins in 128 games. His visit is just part of an eventful holiday weekend:

Thursday (7:10 p.m., FSN): Masahiro Tanaka (11-3) will make his Target Field debut. Fireworks will follow the game.

Friday (2:10 p.m., FSN): MLB will honor Yankees great Lou Gehrig on the 75th anniversary of his “Luckiest Man” speech. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Gehrig bobblehead.

Saturday (1:10 p.m., FSN): Jeter will be honored in a pregame ceremony. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Tom Brunansky 1985 All-Star bobblehead.

Sunday (1:10 p.m., FSN): This is the Twins’ last home game before the All-Star Game hits town on July 15. It precedes the announcement of the All-Star rosters at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
