Cuddyer headed for Rochester rehab

Last update: August 4, 2008 - 7:24 AM

Michael Cuddyer, who has been out since June 27 because of a strained tendon in his left hand, will begin a minor league rehab stint with Class AAA Rochester on Tuesday.

He could rejoin the Twins on Friday at Kansas City, but manager Ron Gardenhire said a more realistic goal is Aug. 11 against the Yankees.

"I'm just banking that he's going to need four or five ballgames," Gardenhire said. "He's going to need 20-25 at-bats, at least. He hasn't played in a long time. But we'll see how he does. If he's down there by Thursday crushing the ball, they might say he's ready."
