Chart: Past No. 5 picks who became All-Stars

  • Updated: June 4, 2014 - 8:46 PM

Stars can be found at No. 5

The last time the Twins picked No. 5 overall, they selected high school outfielder B.J. Garbe, who never reached the majors. But Garbe was the exception. Most No. 5 picks have played at least briefly in the majors, and six since 1997 have been All-Stars:

Year Player Team Comment

2008 Buster Posey Giants NL MVP in 2012 with 24 HR, 103 RBI

2007 Matt Wieters Orioles At least 22 HR each of past three seasons

2005 Ryan Braun Brewers NL MVP in 2011, five-time All-Star

2001 Mark Teixeira Rangers More than 100 RBI eight times

1998 J.D. Drew Cardinals Hit .305 with 31 HR for Atlanta in 2004

1997 Vernon Wells Blue Jays Three-time All-Star, 270 career HR
