He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

TFD: When are we going to see some of these hotshot Twins pitching prospects?

Posted by: Michael Rand under Twins fans Updated: June 2, 2014 - 5:21 PM

The dominance by Twins' pitching prospects at Class AAA Rochester is bordering on ridiculous -- so much so that Alex Meyer, the best prospect, only has the fourth-best ERA among starters at 3.31.

Yohan Pino, a 30-year-old righty who has been a minor-leaguer since 2005, has a 1.65 ERA (1.52 as a starter). Kris Johnson is right behind him at 1.83. Trevor May, the key piece in the Ben Revere trade, has thrown 26 consecutive scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 2.62. All three of them are among the top seven in the International League in terms of ERA.

The peripheral numbers are good, too. Meyer has well more than a strikeout per inning. May has about a strikeout per inning. Pino is giving up less than one baserunner per inning. Johnson has given up just 42 hits in 54 innings.

Twins starters, meanwhile, have a 4.86 team ERA. They have been much better since a disastrous April. That's part of the reason, we imagine, that none of these young arms in Rochester have been called up yet. Phil Hughes has been lights out. Ricky Nolasco is making big money and will get better. Kyle Gibson is showing he belongs. Samuel Deduno has been decent in his five starts. Kevin Correia, the biggest contender to be bumped, has lowered his ERA almost a full run over his last three starts, which have ranged from decent to good.

We're not saying there isn't room for improvement. We are saying there are no obvious guys that should be removed right now. But the moment there is someone who gets hurt or finds a deeper rut, there are plenty of arms waiting to help out.
