TWINS UPDATE

Reliever Casey Fien ended up with a knot in his biceps after being stuck by a Victor Martinez line drive Sunday. He was held out of action until Thursday, when he pitched a scoreless eighth inning. He's ready to go against the Mariners. "It felt good," he said. "The ball was coming out clean." … Kurt Suzuki is batting .360 over his past 20 games — and is a career .314 hitter against Felix Hernandez. Joe Mauer is a career .424 hitter against Hernandez with two home runs. … After a shaky start, Jared Burton has not allowed a run in seven consecutive appearances.

MARINERS UPDATE

The Mariners, who were idle Thursday, began the day ranked 12th in the AL in runs scored, 13th in doubles, 13th in walks and 15th in on-base percentage. They have collected only seven hits over their past 17 innings. … Robinson Cano is batting .301 in his first season in Seattle but has only one home run. He's hit at least 14 home runs in every season he's played since debuting in 2005. … The 6-10 Young is a nice story. He missed all of last season as he recovered from surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome, a nerve disease that causes pain in the shoulders and neck.
