• Wild forward Erik Haula has joined Finland’s roster for the 2014 IIHF World Championship currently taking place in Minsk, Belarus. Haula had a great scoring run for the Wild in the playoffs, collecting four goals and three assists in 13 games.

• Gophers football coach Jerry Kill, who has greatly raised awareness of epilepsy by speaking out about his battle with the neurological disorder, will hold a news conference Thursday morning in conjunction with the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota’s Rise Above Seizures Day. He then will throw out the first pitch at the 12:10 p.m. Twins-Red Sox game. … Last year the offices for every Gophers football assistant coach were completely remodeled to make those in the Bierman Building on par with other Big Ten schools. Now the entire front part of the offices, including that of coach Kill, are being rebuilt.

• The Gophers athletic department got some good news this week when the NCAA Academic Progress Report came out for 2012-2013. The Gophers ranked fourth among Football Bowl Subdivision schools for most teams winning APR awards — which trailed only Northwestern (63 percent), Notre Dame (58 percent) and Duke (54 percent) — with 48 percent of Gophers teams earning an award. All 25 of the Gophers sports teams passed the APR baseline requirements, meaning there will be no penalties such as loss of scholarships at the U.

• The Gophers baseball team clinched a Big Ten tournament berth after sweeping Purdue with three one-run victories last weekend. Minnesota concludes the regular season this weekend with three games at Indiana, the top team in the conference.

• Chris Parmelee, who hit the walk-off home run in the Twins’ 8-6 victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday night, was hitting .438 through his first four games since being recalled from Class AAA Rochester on Friday.
