Red Sox shut out Twins 4-0

The spring training-long sputtering of the Twins' offense continued on Friday as they lost 4-0 to the Boston Red Sox.

They managed just seven hits off of lefthander Felix Dubront and the Red Sox bullpen, but had some real chances to score. They had two men on base in the first, fourth and fifth innings but lacked the key hit.

The fourth and fifth innings were particularly troubling. Aaron Hicks and Eduardo Escobar led off the fourth with singles, but Pedro Florimon, Jason Bartlett and Joe Mauer followed with strikeouts.

Trevor Plouffe singled and Josh Willingham walked to lead off the fifth, but Chris Colabello struck out, Josmil Pinto flied out and Hicks struck out to end that threat.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox picked away at Twins righthander Phil Hughes, who gave four runs over 51/3 innings on 10 hits and one walk.

 Mike Napoli hit a solo home off of him in the sixth on a hanging breaking ball. Other than a few misplaced curveballs,

Hughes announced himself ready for the season. Not sure if anyone is ready to announce that about the Twins offense.
