Chart: Twins pitching misses in draft

Pitching misses

The Twins haven’t had good luck drafting first-round pitchers. From 1985 through 2009 they selected eight pitchers in the first round, including supplemental picks, who have failed to make it to the majors. 1995 selection Mark Redman’s 68-85 record is the most wins by a first-rounder taken by the Twins in that span. Alex Wimmers (2010) and Kohl Stewart (2013) are hoping to stay off this list:

Year Pitcher School Overall

1985 Jeff Bumgarner Hanford HS (Richland, Wash.) 13

1988 Johnny Ard Manatee CC (Fla.) 20

1993 Marc Barcelo Arizona State 33

1998 Ryan Mills Arizona State 6

2004 Jay Rainville Bishop Hendrickson HS (Warwick, R.I.) 39

2008 Carlos Gutierrez Miami (Fla.) 27

2008 Shooter Hunt Tulane 31

2009 Matt Bashore Indiana 46
