Age: 20

Ht./Wt.: 6-2/ 190

Hometown: Graham, Ga.

High School: Appling County in Baxley, Ga.

Drafted: First round, second overall, in 2012 amateur draft.

No. 1: Buxton this offseason was rated baseball's top prospect by both Baseball America and mlb.com.

High school stats: Buxton led Appling County to the state Class AA title, hitting .513. He was also 10-1 with five saves and 154 strikeouts in 81 innings pitched.

Not just one sport: He was an all-state defensive back and receiver in football.

Best tool: Running speed, which scouts say is off the charts. His arm and fielding are also near the top in the five-tool ratings (speed, arm, fielding, hitting for average and power) used by baseball.

Raw power: Most scouts say this is his lowest-rated talent, although as he fills out physically his home run totals should increase. He has homered only once every 38.4 at-bats as a minor leaguer, which computes to 13 homers in 500 at-bats.

Comparisons: A faster version of Andrew McCutcheon, or Matt Kemp with a bit less power, according to ESPN.com's predraft report by Keith Law.

Best 2013 stat: A .424 on-base percentage; Joe Mauer at .404 was the only Twins regular above .350.

Worst 2013 stat: He struck out 105 times in 488 minor league at bats.
