Jason Kubel is headed back to where his major league career started.

The former Twins draft choice, who spent seven seasons with the Twins before signing a free-agent contract with Arizona before the 2012 season, has signed a minor league deal with the Twins that includes an invitation to the team's major league spring training camp, according to multiple media reports.

Kubel, 31, batted .216 with 5 homers and 32 RBI for Arizona last season before being traded to Cleveland for the playoff drive. Kubel was 3 for 18 with Cleveland with no homers.

In 2012, Kubel was a fan favorite with the Diamondbacks, batting .253 with a career-high 30 home runs and 98 RBI.

Former Twins have been linked to the Twins throughout the offseason. They signed Jason Bartlett, tried to bring back A.J. Pierzynski (before he signed with Boston) and are trying to bring back Matt Garza.

On Friday, they got Kubel, who's looking to regain his power stroke.
