Here are three thoughts following the Twins' 1-0 loss to the Tigers

1. ANOTHER SHUTOUT: The Twins were shut out for a club-record 15th time on Wednesday. They have scored 1 or fewer runs 34 times this season, about 20 percent of their games. This offense is the worst in my 16 seasons on the beat. There's not a lot of speed, no on base percentage guys other than Mauer. no power. Nothing to stand for.

2. CORREIA GETS IT DONE. I was among those who were skeptical about the Twins signing Kevin Correia. I was wrong. He was not part of the problem with the 2013 Twins. One official told be before the season began that if Correia threw 180 innings, that would be good value for $5 million. Correia has thrown 185.1 innings (second-most of his career) while posting a respectable 4.19 ERA. ``I thought it would be easier to throw higher but it really wasn't't," he said. ``I thought coming in, I'd easily throw more innings than I ever had. But it's tough. Offensively, it's better. You're not getting pinch-hit for but you're not facing pitchers either. So I learned a lot pitching over here and can build upon that next year."

3. TWO-FOR-TWO SO FAR: The A's celebrated at the Twins' expense. The Tigers celebrated at the Twins' expense. Next up: Cleveland, if the Indians can hold off the Rangers for the final Wild Card spot. ``It's not what we're here for," Gardy said, ``to watch other people celebrate." I'm wondering who Torii Hunter is going to run into on South Beach when the Tigers land there to play the Marlins. Thursday is an off-day, so they can watch the surrise if they want.
