TWINS UPDATE

Is a homestand really a homestand when it’s just three games? That’s what the Twins will find out this week as they come home after six games on the road, play three at Target Field, then leave to play at Texas and Houston. “It’s going to feel like an extended road trip,’’ Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. “I think you’ll see the days are going to go pretty quickly.’’ … Twins General Manager Terry Ryan is returning from Class AAA Rochester and will meet with Gardenhire this week to discuss September call-ups. … In nine games this season Josh Willingham is batting .370 against the Royals with a homer and four RBI.

ROYALS UPDATE

Reliever Luke Hochevar has left the team to be with his wife, who went into labor on Sunday. Lefthander Will Smith was called up from Class AAA Omaha to take his spot. Smith has been called up seven times this season. … The Royals are in the middle of a stretch of 44 games in 44 days. They played host to Tampa Bay on Monday in a makeup game. … Left fielder Alex Gordon has 11 assists. … First basemam Eric Hosmer is batting .359 with four homers and 13 RBI against the Twins this season.
