Chart: Twins' minor leaguers coming and going

Coming and Going

It’s unusual for this late in the season, but the Twins added and subtracted a noteworthy player from the organization last week. The changes:

• Brad Boyer was batting .337 with the St. Paul Saints, so when an injury to Cedar Rapids infielder Jorge Polanco created a domino effect in the organization and left a vacancy at Class AA New Britain, the Twins knew where they could find an additional infielder in a hurry. “We had been tracking him throughout the year,” Twins minor league director Brad Steil said of the 29-year-old former Giants draftee. “He’s versatile around the infield, and he was having a great season. He’s a little older, but who can say at what age a guy is going to get to the major leagues?”

• Cody Eppley, who opened the season in the Yankees’ bullpen, impressed the Twins with his ability to retire righthanders with his sidearm delivery, but the 27-year-old was hoping for more work than he got after coming to Rochester in mid-June, Steil said. With an opt-out date in his contract approaching, Eppley asked for and was granted his release, in order to shop around for a team that would give him a bigger role.
