The Twins have placed outfielder Josh Willingham on the 15-day disabled list with a medial meniscus tear and a bone bruise in his left knee.

Aaron Hicks has been called up from Rochester, where he has been on a rehab assignment after straining his left hamstrong. Hicks batted .191 for Rochester and was scheduled to play in front of a home crowd for the first time on Monday, biut the team's game was rained out.

Willingham has been in and out of the Twins lineup with his knee problems recently. He was scheduled to start Monday night against the Yankees but told manager Ron Gardenhire after pregame warm-ups that he was having difficulty running.

Willingham was batting .224 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI for the Twins. But he hasn't hit a home run since June 2.
