Right-handed pitcher Kohl Stewart, the No. 4 overall selection in baseball's amateur draft, signed with the Twins on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the team.

The Houston, Tex., native was the top-ranked high school pitcher in the country, according to MLB.com and Baseball America. In 40 innings this season for his St. Pius X High School team, Stewart had a 5-1 record and 0.18 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 16 walks.

In 2012, he was 8-0 with 72 strikeouts in 54 innings.

Stewart was a two-sport athlete in high school and would have played college football at Texas A&M if he hadn't signed a pro baseball contract.
