Chart: Possibilities for the Twins at No. 4 in the MLB draft

  • Updated: June 5, 2013 - 8:55 PM

Whose name will get called at no. 4?

The top three players available in the first-year player draft are Oklahoma righthander Jonathan Gray, Stanford righthander Mark Appel and University of San Diego third baseman Kris Bryant. The Twins have the fourth overall pick and are looking at four players, unless one of the top three falls to them: Reese McGuire, catcher, Kentwood (Wash.) High School: McGuire is getting high marks for his defense and scouts believe he’ll maintain a strong and flexible frame. A lefthanded hitter, McGuire finished the regular season batting .417 with 20 walks and just two strikeouts.

Austin Meadows, outfielder, Grayson (Ga.) High School: Another multi-skilled high school outfielder the Twins are interested in. Meadows already is 6-3 and 200 pounds, but he’s expected to remain a center fielder. He has good speed and his lefthanded swing should generate good power.

Colin Moran, third baseman, University of North Carolina: Hitting .348 with 13 homers and 86 RBI for the Tar Heels with 60 walks and 22 strikeouts in 64 games. Has a reliable glove and strong arm at third but not the greatest range. His hitting approach is his best skill.

Kohl Stewart, pitcher, St. Pius X High School (Houston): Has a football scholarship to Texas A&M but won’t turn down No. 4 pick money. Righthander’s fastball is 92-94 miles an hour and has touched 97. His slider hits 88. He didn’t learn a curveball until his junior year but already has good command of it.
