Chart: Top MLB draft prospects

The June 6 draft is approaching, and the Twins have the No. 4 overall pick. Here’s an update on some of the top prospects:

Jonathan Gray, RHP, Oklahoma: Has passed Stanford’s Mark Appel on some boards thanks to a fastball that has touched 100 miles an hour plus a nasty slider. He’ll have to sharpen his changeup but has the skills to be a No. 1 starter in the majors.

Mark Appel, RHP, Stanford: Second consecutive year considered a top pick, and many believe he could pitch in the majors as soon as next season because he has three good pitches. Turned down Pittsburgh and $3.8 million last year.

Kris Bryant, 3B, U. of San Diego: Some believe he’s a better prospect than Gray and Appel. Among the best power hitters coming out of college and has pretty good strike zone judgment. Twins would be interested if he drops to them. Can he stick at third base?

Kohl Stewart, RHP, St. Pius X High (Houston): Considered one of the best prep athletes in the draft. He has a scholarship to play quarterback at Texas A&M. But he also might be the best prep pitcher in the draft, with a fastball that has touched 97 and an impressive slider. Reports have the Twins very interested.

Sean Manaea, LHP, Indiana State: Plenty of upside as a potential power lefty but was scratched from a start this week because of a sore hip. He also felt tightness in his shoulder when warming up, which might scare teams in an era when no one wants to miss on a pick.
