TWINS UPDATE

Remember how the Twins wanted to avoid getting behind early? They have given up 43 first-inning runs this season, the most in the majors. Through this point last season, the Twins had given up 31 runs in the first inning. … Once kings of interleague play, the Twins have not had a winning interleague season since 2009. And they are 1-3 this season. … Correia is 3-2 with a 3.51 ERA in his career against the Braves. Pelfrey is 4-9 with a 5.65 ERA, and Worley is 1-1 with a 3.57. … The Twins who have faced Tim Hudson have hit a collective .115 with zero home runs against him. Josh Willingham is 1-for-20 against Hudson.

 

BRAVES UPDATE

Atlanta’s pitching staff has been hit by several injuries, some serious. Jonny Venters last week had Tommy John elbow surgery. Cristian Martinez and Jordan Walden have had shoulder problems. Luis Ayala is on the disabled list because of anxiety disorder. Lefthander Eric O’Flaherty was placed on the DL over the weekend and is headed for Tommy John surgery. … The Twins will get to experience the legend of catcher Evan Gattis, who battled anxiety, alcohol and drug abuse, quit baseball for three years but returned and is producing for the Braves.
