American League

Guillen finishes off Yankees

• KANSAS CITY 3, NEW YORK 2: Jose Guillen's solo home run off Mariano Rivera in the ninth Monday lifted the Royals over the host Yankees. It was Guillen's fourth homer in the past three games. He went 9-for-16 in the four-game series with four homers and 10 RBI.

• CLEVELAND 8, DETROIT 2: Ryan Garko and Kelly Shoppach both homered in the first two innings against Dontrelle Willis, as the Indians beat the Tigers in Detroit.

• SEATTLE 3, TORONTO 2 (10): Miguel Cairo's safety squeeze after Jason Frasor walked the bases loaded in the 10th inning lifted the Mariners over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

• TAMPA BAY 13, LOS ANGELES 4: Two home runs and a double by Evan Longoria led the Rays over the host Angels.

National League

Errors hurt Johnson, Diamondbacks

• PITTSBURGH 5, ARIZONA 3: The Pirates took advantage of Randy Johnson and a reversed home run call to win in Pittsburgh. Johnson limited the Pirates to six singles and struck out three in 5 2/3 innings but was hurt by three errors, one by himself. Pittsburgh's Mark Reynolds hit a home run, but he had two until the umpires huddled and took one away, deciding a fan pulled it over the fence.

• SAN FRANCISCO 3, WASHINGTON 2: For the second day in a row, the Giants rallied in the fifth, scored two runs, and beat the host Nationals.

League notes

Mariners fire hitting coach

• Seattle (23-41) fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland and replaced him with special assistant Lee Elia.

• Cleveland recalled infielder Josh Barfield from Class AAA Buffalo.

• Cincinnati shortstop Jerry Hairston fractured his left thumb against the Marlins on Monday night.

Go Twins!

I made this championship belt for the push to the '09 Division Title. Gladden offered to buy it; I wanted a trade for one of his rings. He declined.
