Span is out with broken finger

Last update: May 21, 2008 - 7:17 AM

Class AAA Rochester outfielder Denard Span is expected to miss one month because of a broken finger on his left hand.

Span injured the hand on Tuesday when he was hit by a pitch while squaring to bunt.

Span is batting .327 with a .431 on-base percentage. The Twins briefly considered calling Span up over the weekend when Carlos Gomez injured his wrist. Span, the Twins' first-round pick in 2002, lost out to Gomez in a battle for the starting center field job in spring training.
