American League

Garza outpitches Pettitte

• TAMPA BAY 7, NEW YORK 1: Matt Garza pitched seven scoreless innings and the surging Rays beat nemesis Andy Pettitte and the Yankees in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Monday for their fifth consecutive victory. Garza gave up five hits, walked one and struck out three while holding the Yankees in check with help from three double plays. Jason Bartlett and Dioner Navarro each drove in two runs for the Rays, who extended their home winning streak 10 games. Pettitte fell to 8-2 lifetime at Tropicana Field.

• LOS ANGELES 10, CHICAGO 7: Vladimir Guerrero homered and drove in four runs, and Nick Adenhart recorded his first major league victory as the Angels beat the White Sox in Anaheim, Calif., ending a four-game losing streak. Chicago lefthander Mark Buehrle fell to 1-5, giving up eight runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Francisco Rodriguez got the final two outs for his major league-leading 15th save.

• TEXAS 13, SEATTLE 12: Ramon Vazquez hit a walk-off homer in the 10th inning as the Rangers beat the Mariners in Arlington, Texas. Seattle tied it up by scoring four runs in the ninth, three on a two-out homer by struggling catcher Kenji Johjima.

National League

Brewers' Braun homers twice again

• MILWAUKEE 8, ST. LOUIS 3: Ryan Braun hit two home runs for the second game in a row for the host Brewers, and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and manager Tony La Russa were ejected. Braun followed up Sunday's two-homer performance by hitting two off stingy St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright.

• PITTSBURGH 5, ATLANTA 0 (1st); ATLANTA 8, PITTSBURGH 0 (2nd): Tim Hudson limited the Pirates to two hits and an unearned run over seven innings and the Braves halted their seven-game road losing streak and the Pirates' six-game winning streak in the second game of a doubleheader. In the opener, Freddy Sanchez hit a three-run double and Zach Duke pitched six shutout innings.

• CINCINNATI 8, FLORIDA 7: Jeff Keppinger and Brandon Phillips hit two-run homers in the seventh inning as the host Reds ended the Marlins' seven-game winning streak.

• WASHINGTON 10, NEW YORK 4: Odalis Perez had three hits and two RBI while pitching into the seventh inning to earn his first victory of the season, as the Nationals beat the host Mets.

• CHICAGO 12, SAN DIEGO 3: Carlos Zambrano won his fifth decision in a row and Alfonso Soriano homered in a six-run fifth as the host Cubs beat the Padres for their fourth victory in a row.

• HOUSTON 7, SAN FRANCISCO 3: Lance Berkman went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer to back Roy Oswalt for the Astros against the host Giants.

League notes

A-Rod won't play this week

• Alex Rodriguez's strained right quadriceps will keep him from playing this week, causing the AL MVP to miss the Yankees' interleague series against the Mets this weekend. The third baseman was eligible to come off the disabled list Thursday.

• Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal will be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a lower back strain that has caused him to miss Los Angeles' past five games.

I made this championship belt for the push to the '09 Division Title. Gladden offered to buy it; I wanted a trade for one of his rings. He declined.
