THREE-GAME SERIES AT THE METRODOME
RHP Kevin Slowey (0-2, 6.48 ERA) vs. RHP Jesse Litsch (4-1, 4.24)
RHP Boof Bonser (2-4, 5.09) vs. RHP Roy Halladay (3-5, 3.29)
LHP Glen Perkins (0-1, 4.50) vs. RHP Dustin McGowan (2-3, 4.47)
Someone will have to leave the starting rotation when Scott Baker comes off the disabled list, so this series brings big starts for Slowey, Bonser and Perkins. Bonser has been up and down all season. Slowey pitched four scoreless innings against the White Sox last Thursday before giving up two home runs in the fifth, squandering a 2-0 lead. Perkins impressed Saturday against Boston in his first major league start, though he also gave up two seventh-inning home runs, erasing a 2-1 lead.
Toronto lost center fielder Vernon Wells for two months because of a broken left wrist this weekend. Third baseman Scott Rolen entered Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland batting .320 in his previous 14 games. Blue Jays starting pitchers entered Monday with the third-best ERA in the American League, at 3.78. Roy Halladay went six innings Friday at Cleveland, and that was his shortest start of the season. He pitched four consecutive complete games in April.
